Linux and FreeBSD server setup and maintenance, running Apache, MySQL, sendmail, BIND, proftpd, and more. Setup and maintenance of an internal mixed-environment office network including firewalling, mail servers, file servers, and internal DNS.

Administered Navarik's production and development Linux servers for six months, serving major clients in the shipping industry. Also participated in team-oriented programming efforts primarily in PHP and Python with a Postgres database backend.

Senior Programmer
Custom programming, both on internal and client projects, in: Perl, PHP, C & C++, shell scripting, Cold Fusion, ASP/Visual Basic, and others, with database connectivity using MySQL, Postgres, MS SQL server, ODBC, etc. Projects included client tracking software, online database applications, e-commerce solutions and much more.

Senior System Administrator
Set up and administered UNIX (Linux, FreeBSD) and MS Windows NT servers, running web servers (Apache, MS IIS/FrontPage Server), email (Sendmail, qpopper, UW imap), DNS (BIND), FTP (various), and others, as well as performing day-to-day server maintenance.

Technical Support
Technical support for residential and business clients, including dialup, ADSL and ISDN networking setup and troubleshooting in MS Windows and MacOS, as well as various other networking and support issues.

Designed and maintained web pages for clients and for in-house projects. This involved layout and graphic design, HTML coding, programming in JavaScript and CGI programming in Perl, graphic design using Photoshop on MacOS, general webmastering, and many other duties.

Projects during this time included graphic design and page layout for print publications, from pamphlets and brochures through to 30+-page membership directories; advertisment and logo design and reproduction; database management; general purpose scripting and programming.

Received National Entrance Scholarship from UBC in the amount of $26,000 distributed over four years; one of ten such scholarships awarded across Canada at the time.

Received McGill Graduates Scholarship of $450 in 1995 during third year at UBC.

Completed three years towards a Linguistics major, before leaving to pursue my career.

Graduated with honours from high school in 1993, having maintained a grade point average of 4.0 in grades 11 and 12 and received the top academic student award for both those years. Received the Governor General's Award for academic excellence as top academic student and valedictorian of the graduating class.

Completed English Literature & Composition and Calculus AB Advanced Placement exams, with scores of three and five respectively.

Also familiar with: Tcl/Tk, Java, Lisp and some assembly language.

Environments: Web-based server- and client-side programming, Linux/UNIX, X-Windows, DOS, MS Windows API, Borland C++Builder, database systems (MySQL, Postgres, MS SQL Server, etc).

I have a firm grasp of the principles of programming, and am able to quickly learn new languages and environments.
